J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Pigs, Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 12th July 2022.

Pigs
Prime pigs sold to a sharp trade with the best selling to £192 twice from PK&R Woof, Stainton. Well finished prime pigs regularly sold around the 145-150p/kg or £120-£130 a head. More interest in sows today with them selling to a top of £92 from RJ&R Holden, Silecroft. 40 weaners forward with plenty of people keen to purchase, Saddleback weaners sold to £52 from B Capstick, Sedbergh.

Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of prime lambs had a reduced entry of 951 forward. The trade saw good quality and well fleshed heavy weight lambs in strongest demand with commercial lambs noticeably less, as many firms are quiet this week after a busy weekend for the festival with some firms only operating less days this week. Heavy weight Texel’s at 56kg sold to £158 from DM & D Cook, Ulverston with others from this home selling to £154.50, £153 and £150.50. A run of heavy weight lambs from F & SA Edmondson, Ulverston sold Texel lambs to £157 and Suffolk’s to £155. A heavy weight Texel from JT Proctor, Grange over Sands sold to £156. A pen of 50kg lambs from R Oldfield, Carnforth sold to £154. The weekly consignment of heavy weight 50kg lambs from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland were eagerly bid for selling to £150.50 with other pens to £148.50 and £148 twice. More heavy weight lambs are required at J36 with plenty of pens regularly selling in the one hundred and forties. Better conformation lambs continue to sell in the region of 300p/kg and more with them peaking at 342p/kg for a smart Beltex lamb from FI & ME Little, Kendal.

Cast Sheep
A reduced entry of cast sheep forward with all types selling to a sharper trade than expected, buyers are now requesting for sheep to be clipped. Ewes sold to a top of £170 for Beltexs from CM Jennings, Selside with Suffolks selling to £148 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe. Plenty of good Continental ewes sold in the £130 - £140 mark. Mule ewes sold to £126 from A&B Fell, Silecroft with the best around either side of the £107 mark. A small show of hill ewes were forward with Cheviots selling to £101 from M Allen, Yealand, Rough Fells to £96 from GT Hodgson, Witherslack and Swaledales to £95 from JW Thwaites, Greenholme. Ewes are required at J36 with a full ring side of buyers looking to purchase all types of ewes.
